Setting up a Backup Collector
A Backup Collector serves as a failover mechanism, taking over data collection if the primary collector becomes unavailable. The setup process is similar to installing a new collector, but it requires you to use the same encryption key currently in use by the primary collector. This ensures both collectors can access and decrypt the collection secrets securely stored on the App Server.
Step 1: Install the Backup Collector
Install the Forward Networks Collector software on the backup device. Follow the steps in the Collector Installation Guide to complete the installation.
Step 2: Use the Same Encryption Key
Make sure to enter the same encryption key that the primary collector uses. This ensures the backup collector can access the same encrypted secrets. If you don't have access to the encryption key used while setting up the original collector, run the Recrypter to setup a new custom encryption key.
Switching to the Backup Collector
After setup, the backup collector will show up on the Collector page. If the primary collector is down, simply go to the page and switch to the backup by selecting it from the list.
