Connection types:

To collect from an Avi controller, Forward needs to launch an Avi shell to execute and collect commands (default Avi shell username is cli). The controller may be running in a container or in the host.

Mode 1 - Direct (SSH): connection to the Avi container using container credentials

Mode 2 - Direct via CLI user (SSH): connection to the Avi container using cli username. It directly connects to the AVI shell. The Avi shell supports two different output formats for commands, human-readable and JSON. The output format can only be set when the shell is launched. Forward requires JSON output. If the output is not in JSON format, a new bash shell is started and then another Avi shell with the --json flag is launched to enable JSON output. Note that this requires the CLI user to have permission to start a bash shell.

Mode 3 - Via host (SSH): connect to the host that is running the Avi Controller container. From that, Forward tries to determine what port the Avi container is running on, and connects to it (default port is 5098.). The host here is effectively a jump server where the target is discovered automatically.

Mode 4 - Via API (HTTPS): collect from Avi's REST API.
